In The Autumn
In the neighborhood where I was born
the trees are towering like children sporting beards
and out of college; holding children of their own
in thickened boughs, standing taller in a fashion similar
yet different, casting now a broader shadow across the old street
than when we used to play kickball there every day
after school in the autumn.
