Becoming Another
Climbing to his Everest,
the cicada peaks the liriope bloom
and lifts his voice to Tara
knowing she will hear.
A sorrow not a paramour
has caused his heart to sing,
his tymbal membranes to expand
and contract inward.
His aching cries for peace
increase in decibels then subside.
His soul begins to swell
and soon has nowhere else to go
except beyond this genocide
of healing. Leaving only
a scant reminder clinging tightly
to supple lavender petals.
